Happy Grandparents’ Day

Did anyone know that 23rd November was Grandparents’ Day?

I had no idea we had a grandparents day. I thought the other way of calling it was Senior Citizens’ Week. That was the dinner I attended last Sunday with my mum and relatives.

It was like an annual dinner for the RC people of my area. My uncle booked one table this time compared to last year.

And I was ‘tricked’ into going. None of my cousins went! =( So I was kinda stuck with the older generation. And my phone was already haywired then I couldn’t entertain myself with it. I couldn’t even send a proper sms to Madcow without it hanging on me. So I used my mum’s phone instead.

“I’m in a sea of grey hair”

Was one of the sms I sent to Madcow.

All photos taken with my mum’s SE k800i.

Cashew Senior Citizens’ Week Celebration cum Dengue Awareness.

I honestly didn’t realise the “Dengue Awareness” until I’m blogging at this minute. Lol.

The whole dinner was singing performances by ge-tai singers and corny jokes by the host. It was… Well, let’s just say I’d rather stay home and watch the Mediacorp 45th Anniversary Gala on TV.

First dish (by right is cold dish, but they served chicken karaage and ngoh hiang)

I must say, this year, even though the cost of one table was cheaper, the food was way better than last year’s. At least the sushi was decent tuna. Last year was hot dog. Lol!

I kept bugging my mum about giving a miss for this dinner. But she kept telling me to “just go”. So I thought ok fine, I shall leave if my idol didn’t turn up.

But he did! Well, he couldn’t have missed it since he was the MP of my area. Must show face a bit.

Two tables away

I swear my mum’s phone sucked though it’s 3.2mpx. Dr. Vivian looked so grainy!

Then they served Sharks’ Fins Soup. Quite tasteless but at least there were solid pieces of sharks’ fins.

Next, they welcomed Dr. Vivian up on stage for a talk which I simply couldn’t remember what he was talking about. I was trying so hard to get a photo of him.

*Droooooolsss*

Roast duck up next. One word: oily.

The all so sinful OILY roast duck with some lemon or orange sauce beneath.

Next was something pleasant and light. Broccoli with red capsicums and (according to my aunt) fake abalone.

I’m starting to love the greens!

I’m on a healthier diet nowadays. Starting to eat more varieties of veggies so that my kids will have a good example to follow. LOL!

Next dish was Cereal Prawns. It was good! Can simply say one of the tastiest dish that night.

Then it was the fish. Steamed the way I liked it.

Steamed I don’t-know-what-fish. Pomfret? Marketing lessons anyone?

Exactly the way I like. My mum’s style. =) But could do better with more salted vegetables and red dates.

I would wish to totally skip the next dish but oh well, just to note down that I’ve tasted it too.

The unknown rice-in-herbal-leaves. It didn’t taste anything herbal. It didn’t taste like glutinuous rice either. No one knew what it was. But I was too full to finish my serving. So that’s about it.

Then came desserts. I never once liked desserts served during such multi-course dinners or weddings unless they are REALLY special. What orh-ni, pudding or whatever sesame peanut ball, I no like.

The dish I totally left untouched. No idea what it was. Probably some tang yuan in peanut gravy.

That was it. My mum disallowed me to leave after the dinner. She held me back for the lucky draw. Oh my. But our table didn’t win a single lucky draw though.

You can literally tell everyone stayed back after their dinner just for the lucky draw. Once they announced the grand prize, everybody practically stood up and left, whether they won or not! Once again, my fellow people, we witnessed the kiasuism of Singaporeans.
