New year chalet with the family

That weekend was jam-packed with activities.

Previous day was countdown at USS, and the next day will be lunch buffet at MBS again.

So this very day, the first day of the new year, I went for a chalet that my mum and relatives booked. And I tell you. It was simply unnecessary to pay this amount for a chalet. They paid more than 400 bucks for 2 nights at Downtown East. Worth or not you tell me!

Chalet leh!

I would rather go stay in a hotel and enjoy red wine with a medium rare steak than squeeze in the small room and drink bottled orange juice and home-made BBQ food.

Ok lah. Actually BBQ also very fun. Besides, I haven’t seen my grandma for a while. So it was good catching up too. Though I can never speak a full sentence of proper dialect to her, but at least I’ve improved, even though it’s a mixture of teochew, hokkien and chinese.

She understand can liao. =x

BBQ started pretty early because we worried it would rain halfway. The weather that day was pretty temperamental. BBQ started at 4ish and no one stopped eating from then till 9pm when I left.

My mum and aunts started preparing ingredients for the salad and kebabs.

I have probably prepared BBQ stuff once or twice in my life. Like buying chicken wings, marinating them, getting other BBQ-able food, and frying some fried rice and some other cooked food to go along and stuff. It’s tiring I tell you.

And ah, to transport all those BBQ stuff to the chalet or BBQ area, it’s damn hard if you’re alone. So last time when my dad was still driving he would send me and the food and my friends to the chalet.

This time, my mum and aunts got my uncle’s help.

So anyway, it seemed they brought a lot of stuff down it looked as if they moved house.

Nobody makes renting a chalet so busy like my mum and aunts. Haha.

I want this! My sister and cousin has it. Over a thousand bucks leh. How how? Sell Casper away? Haha just kidding. I wouldn’t do such a thing to Casper.

Talking about Casper, why aren’t dogs allowed at chalets? Boohoo! Poor him had to spend new year’s day alone at home because no pets allowed.

Cousin setting up the fire.

Me sheltering him from the sun because it got too hot. Lol! So useful.

And slacking away with my younger cousin, watching the elder one do his thing.

And he slacked too, while waiting for the fire to burn. Oh ya, the GF1 is his.

We took a stick of marshmallow to test the fire. Haha.

Yay! Yummy BBQ-ed marshmallows.

I never liked marshmallows until being introduced to BBQ-ed ones.

Sweet potatoes.

First we did the prawns.

Then we added the chicken wings.

While the aunties prepared salad.

Kebabs added.

And otahs.

The cooking didn’t take too long so the elders started eating once the 1st batch was done. The young ones, on the other hand, continued cooking.

Poor us.

Grandma gets the CEO seat.

And then we switched roles. The elders cooked, the young ones ate.

We were frightened a few times by the weather. It drizzled a few times but fortunately not too heavy for us to stop BBQ-ing.

And then it turned dark. And BBQ didn’t stop.

The peng-er.

The fanner.

And I was rotating between cooking, fanning and taking photos.

Tummy no good so didn’t eat much but the chicken wings were fantastic! My aunt damn good in marinating BBQ food. We had chicken wings, prawns, fish, kebabs, pork fillet, otah, hot dogs, squids, sweet potatoes, marshmallows, salad.

Wahahahaha seems a lot eh?

And we did have a slight accident halfway through. Applied too much oil and this happened.

Weeee~! But all was saved. So no worries. No one or chicken wings were hurt.

I miss those times when we went for chalet and trying not to sleep the whole night!

And the food looks super tempting!
